Nothing could stop the fun of SPLASH Sydney, not even thunder and lightning which quickly halted proceedings after the first heat.

With everyone huddled under cover at Prince Alfred Park Pool, and thirty minutes between lightning strikes before being allowed back on deck, the event was set to be cancelled, but the majority of teams decided to wait it out for a chance to swim with our champions of the pool.

For the second year in a row the McGrathNichol Marlin’s won the SPLASH trophy, Colliers strategically pledged a donation on the night to put them on top of the fundraising leaderboard and get first choice of Aussie champion, and a new Hilton team had everyone on their toes with a fine fundraising effort.

Together, the SPLASH teams raised over $51k to allow Special Olympics Australia to bring sport, joy and inclusion to people with intellectual disability/autism.

Thanks to all teams for your support, enthusiasm and team spirit. The thunder was just a little distraction from the thunderous applause at the pool!

The final results, including each team’s guest Aussie champion and Special Olympics athlete were:

🥇McGrathNicol Marlins with Olympian Brad Woodward and Special Olympics athlete Zac Fry.

🥈Deloitte Dolphins with Olympian Matt Wilson and Special Olympics athlete Lachlan Hanratty.

🥉Colliers Crocs with Olympian Grant Brits and Special Olympics athlete Zane Zofrea.*

Fourth place: Allens Sinklaters with Olympian Matt Byrnes and Special Olympics athlete Simone Robertson.

Fifth place: Colliers Crabs with Olympian Kessja Gofers and Special Olympics athlete Mitchell Byrne.

Sixth place: Colin Biggers & Paisley with Olympian Nathan Power and Special Olympics athlete Indigo Driscoll.

An awards ceremony was held after the event, which included awarding the top three teams, and recognising Colliers Crocs as the highest fundraising team and Kiah Lingwood from Colliers Crabs as the highest individual fundraiser.

After ten years in Sydney, SPLASH launched in Melbourne early in 2024 and will come to Brisbane in 2025.
